Celebrating more than a decade of service with Digicall, Justus Fourie has grown with the business serving as the Regional Chief Financial Officer in the Western Cape.
A qualified CA(SA), Justus laid a sound foundation in the first 10 years of his career, gaining invaluable international experience in some of the world’s major financial hubs.
He started his career in public accounting, building the foundations and gaining the necessary experience which would lead him to become one of Digicall’s instrumental strategic accountants and team members.
“This career choice also allowed me to work overseas, in London and New York, which offered invaluable experience, both professionally and from a personal development perspective,” says Justus.
His passion and drive to influence the strategic direction of businesses led him to Digicall in 2009, where he also had the opportunity to gain experience in helping direct the day-to-day operations.
“There is something quite rewarding in playing a part in the success of a business, creating jobs, generating shareholder returns, and providing security for one’s own family,” he says.
“Digicall has experienced phenomenal growth over the last 10-plus years, and as a result, I have been in the fortunate position to be given regular opportunities for career growth.”
As regional CFO, Justus is responsible for driving Digicall’s financial strategy in his region. At the same time, he also provides oversight and risk management for the Cape Town-based BPO businesses. When working in a company with an entrepreneurial approach to business, he dedicates time to supporting business development efforts through commercial modelling and implementing new initiatives.
“I am lucky to have the support of strong teams which allows me to direct my efforts to where the business needs it, sometimes in areas outside of finance,” says Justus.
“At a macro level, I am driven by growth for the business, our people, and myself.”
While Justus loves crunching numbers and helping businesses tick, he has a passion for technological innovation and the potential in changing people and businesses for the better.
“I am a huge fan of smart technology, my Garmin watch, Uber, streaming TV. I am always asking my teams how we can do things faster and smarter through tech,” he says.
“Digicall was born out of the need to streamline processes using technology. It’s in our DNA to be a leader in providing technology-based solutions.”
What does his crystal ball say about the trends to look out for in the BPO space? “New technologies will continue to play a major role in shaping the BPO industry in the next 10 years with significant investment in robotic process automation (RPA) and speech analytics. The one trend that is perhaps a little more difficult to predict is the impact of the decentralised workspace and how that may change how BPO is delivered across the globe. We have identified this as one of our key strategic opportunities to develop in the medium term.”
When he is not exploring new technologies, assisting BPO business or assisting entrepreneurial enterprises, Justus spends time with his wife and two daughters, cooking for their friends and enjoying a glass of wine. Justus regularly hits the tarmac training for his second marathon while he longs for a post-pandemic time where he can feed his wanderlust.
